The Gaura Estate was established in 1990 by Mr. Hengky Lianto and his family with the goal to improve the livelihoods of the local community and restore some of the local biodiversity. It is the first and only professionally managed cacao plantation on the island.
In 2015, the team won the prestigious Cocoa of Excellence Award,
a great testament for their hard work. The family launched their own "Ghaura Chocolate" brand in 2019 to make their products accessible to the local community in Sumba and Timor.
